Ashley and Jeff are both avid cyclists, live active lifestyles and totally embrace everything that life has to offer. Their wedding was definitely an emotional day. Aside from the bride and groom, there were a few other people who played a big part in the day and made a huge impact on me (and many of the guests in attendance): Coady, the ring bearer, along with his Dad and the beautiful memory his Mom (Jeff’s sister) who recently passed away due to cancer. Ashley and Jeff had stressed prior to their wedding that they wanted to make sure her memory was honored in a positive way throughout their day … and they did a superb job. I have to say, they gave us all a lesson on the importance of friends and family that we won’t soon forget.

It’s no secret that I enjoy collaborating with Liam Hennessey and Heather Crosby – we’ve become good friends and are equally passionate about our jobs and our clients. Last winter we packed our gear up and headed to PEI for a creative collaboration that, months later, caught the attention of the crew from Arcadia Entertainment. They invited us into their offices to chat about the creative side of wedding photography, and after a few meetings, we got together to film a pitch for a tv series …

A big thanks to John Wesley Chisholm and the entire crew at Arcadia Entertainment for the opportunity to get together and shoot the bride.

Greek vs. Lebanese

What do you get when a Greek family and Lebanese family are united by marriage? A very large wedding with amazing food, great dancing and lots of tradition. I photographed Rena & Richie’s engagement earlier this year, and was looking forward to all aspects of the Greek and Lebanese culture that they were planning to incorporate into their day. After the beautiful ceremony in the Greek Orthodox church in Halifax, guests were treated to a fantastic dinner followed by traditional Greek and Lebanese dancing (which was much like a dance off), along with an incredible performance by “magic hands” Charlie K and his Darbouka. Needless to say, the party lasted hours and, as usual, we stayed until the very end trying to keep up and capture all of the action …

The 2011 wedding season certainly started off with a bang. We packed up the entire Cooke clan (including Jenn of course) and headed east of Toronto to Cobourg, Ontario for Karla and Pete’s wedding celebration …

Susie’s youngest cousin, Karla, had moved to Cobourg to be with Pete who grew up as a part of this quaint little town’s close-knit Greek community. After a traditional Greek wedding ceremony, the rain, and humidity didn’t stop the newlyweds from re-visiting the location of Pete’s proposal. The reception followed with great food, heart-felt speeches, money flying, and lots of dancing. I’m pretty sure that my daughter must have some Greek blood in her because once the music started up – she literally danced herself into exhaustion. Congrats to Karla & Pete – it was so great to be a part of your day and celebrate with friends and family – old and new! Have a great time on your honeymoon in Greece!
