Jordan, Tommy & Their Newfoundland Love

Anyone who knows me knows that I love big, happy, playful dogs, so when Jordan mentioned that their 6 month old Newfoundland would be coming along for our shoot, I was excited to include him. Samson has a heart of gold and wasn’t the least bit camera shy … in fact at times he stole the spotlight from the soon-to-be married couple. Thankfully, he never managed to take the picnic table for a walk and just watched patiently, waiting for us to wrap things up. Seeing this fun-loving couple with their new ‘baby’ brought back some great memories of when Susie and I added our first four-legged family member. Such an exciting time in Jordan and Tommy’s lives – I can’t wait to be there to capture their I-dos this August!

Anson Chappell - Tack sharp! Obviously using a tripod?

Vicki - The photos are absolutely wonderful! All three of you look great.

stacy squires photography - photos that will treasured for ever :-)

Jordan - Hahaha thanks Britt! Mum said that she hopes that Tommy didn’t realize that i look at Samson with the same smile as him! lol There’s no harm in that! I love both my boys!;)

Britt Traynor - Such amazing photos!!!! You guys are so clearly happy and in love (with each other and Samson)! Can’t wait for the BIG day! Loves – xo Britt

Anna + Jack Engaged!

Anna & Jack were a treat to work with … I love the obvious comfort between these two, which was easy considering they’ve been together since high school. They are playful and real – two of my favorite traits in a couple – and I can’t wait to see what a fun celebration their wedding is going to be. Here are a few of my favourites from our recent engagement session …

Trash the Dress PEI Part 3 – Katharina

Meet Katharina. She’s the owner of Katharina’s Bridal Boutique in Summerside, PEI, so obviously she’s an expert on how to rock a wedding dress. Katharnia opened her boutique to ensure brides have a joyful and memorable experience while searching for that perfect dress, so her shop was the perfect setting for her to rock the dress. It was an absolute pleasure working with Katharina and her wonderful best friends (along with Liam and Heather) – thanks for hosting us crazy wedding photographers, allowing us to rearrange all of the furniture your shop … and burning a wedding dress. More to come!

ErinD - Love it! This photo shoot makes me want to buy a dress just to ‘rock’ it! guess I better get married first.

applehead - its flawless. fancy post work.

Griffen - Hahaha it looks like we caught Kaethe in the act! I love it!

Trash the Dress PEI Part 2 – Griffen

We met up with Griffen in Summerside, Prince Edward Island for her “Trash the Dress / Rock the Dress” shoot – and due to some nasty Maritime weather, we decided to do things inside of Katharina’s Bridal Boutique. Griffen is a tattoo artist, so Liam from Applehead came up with a great idea involving her husband and a little ink. I’m actually happy the weather forced us indoors because Katharina’s twas a fantastic setting for the shoot. Griffen rocked an amazing black wedding dress … and shortly after, her original white dress went up in flames.

Rock the Stable, Burn A Dress: Trash the Dress PEI Part One

Meet Julia … it’s always nice when a bride isn’t worried about getting a little bit of PEI’s red dirt and barn on their dress. Julia grew up riding horses and wanted the feel of her shoot to be like a bride at the derby, so this was the perfect setting for her to “trash the dress/rock the dress”.

KATIE - I’m form PEI, Summerside actually. And I think this is awesome! well done!

Jordan - Holy cow….. just read the comments from PEI…. so many of them are so nasty!!!!! How about th fact that it is THE BRIDE’S DRESS and she can do WHATEVER SHE WANTS WITH IT regardless of wether other call it art or not! Man oh man!

Jeff Babineau - Hope that was not a good light stand!!

Kendra MacIntyre - My sister is the one in the barn with the horses. They look so beautiful. Can’t wait to see the rest. :)

Kyle Perison - Great images! Love that last shot. You should totally submit them to me so I can feature them on FreeToFlaunt. :)

Kim Rocks The Dress

Meet Kim again – this time sans Dan and totally rocking the dress in a trash the dress kinda setting.

This Trash the Dress / Rock the Dress session was a lot of fun because Kim was totally open to any possible shot I wanted to create … and I also had the opportunity to collaborate with Heather Crosby-Gionet of This is Photography. Heather is full of amazing ideas and is a wonderful wedding and boudoir photographer. I’m really looking forward to working with her again … next time with Liam Hennesey of Applehead Studio for our Trash the Dress / Rock the Dress PEI project (stay tuned for more). And of course, a big thanks to Kim for making it very easy for us … she is incredibly beautiful and was up for anything, which is perfect for this type of photography. Check out the images yourselves!

The Key To An Engagement Session …

A great couple, beautiful daughter and gorgeous beach outside Halifax on a foggy Nova Scotia evening are all the makings for a fun shoot, but I also learned the hard way that a foggy night on the beach can also lead to lost car keys. Thanks to iPhone lighting and the keen eye of Dan, no tow trucks were required and, as you can see from the pics below, we had an overall great evening! What a way to end a fantastic shoot … a big thanks to Dan & Kim for the talented beachcombing.

This actually isn’t the first time I have lost my keys and, as my wife reminded me (thanks Sus – I can always count on you to remind me of the details!), the last time I lost them, I was working too. I guess sometimes I get a little too into the moment during shoots and don’t notice important things like car keys falling out of my pocket. So my first purchase of the day (after a Tim’s coffee) will be a tether cord that I can use to physically attach my keys to me. So to all my brides, don’t worry – now I can keep on rocking photo shoots and don’t have to worry about being stranded on location – problem solved!

Kim - You did such a fantastic job Jeff, can’t wait for our wedding, although I plan on buying you a keychain with a gps…lol

Creative Bridal

Trash the dress isn’t about trashing the dress as much as it is about creating artistic, fashion-inspired images of a bride in her gown. These sessions are usually done after the ceremony as an alternative to keeping and storing your dress that will most likely never be worn again. But if you want to torch your dress or jump into a lake or the ocean, I’m all for it! These sessions are typically designed to put “really pretty people in very ugly places” … think fashion photography. But if you’re not totally up for trashing your dress, you should definitely rock your dress. And you can rock your dress either before or after the wedding! Rocking the dress means having a fashion inspired concept, venturing into places where you might not normally feel comfortable or have the chance to visit on your wedding day, but still keeping it pretty clean and completely undamaged. Besides, you can get your dress cleaned! I like to add a little rock and roll to my shoots, creating gritty, romantic and uniquely sexy photos that are all about creativity, imagination and of course the bride … grooms optional.

Carrie B - OMG – AWESOME! I need to find my wedding dress so I can rip it up with you! What a clever way to get some very fun wedding photos!

Amy Grace - I found your site on The Knot and fell in love with your work! I’d LOVE to do a trash the dress session with you – what a different way to photograph me in my wedding dress. I’m not married or engaged but when that finally happens, you’ll be the first one I call!

The Shootout: Part 2

I wanted to share a few more shots from our recent wedding photography shootout. A big thanks to Charlotte, Deb and Perry for allowing us photographers to have a little fun … and of course a big thanks to the amazing makeup artist Naphtali Carleton for working her magic.

Date Night

Dai works offshore for a few weeks at a time and life is very busy with their children, so Dai and Niki always make time for a date night when he is home. Last week on a very spring-like Halifax day, they decided to check out a Halifax hot spot for dinner. I tagged along with them in the early evening and we took advantage of the amazing weather to get some fun shots of just the two of them around the city.
