I’m The Man Who Loves You – Wilco Live in Halifax

I really love wedding photography, but I’ll admit, having the opportunity to photograph my favourite band was quite the exhilarating experience. Wilco played a sold out show in Halifax on Wednesday and completely rocked their high-energy, 2+ hour set … if you’re not familiar with the band, I’d highly recommend that you check them out … and if you ever have the chance to experience them live, you’ll see (and hear) just how exceptionally talented they are. I could write more about the show, but I think the photos speak for themselves …

The Cage Veil

I met up with a few other wedding photographers for a little shooting in a dark and dusty basement in downtown Halifax … the concept was to come up with a few shots featuring a bride wearing a cage veil – and Deb totally rocked it …

I’ve read (and been told) that the cage veil is a popular trend for 2010 weddings and I sure do hope to see more of them this coming season.

Island Love

Being back on the East Coast of Canada has reminded me of the talent that exists here. I recently travelled to Charlottetown, PEI to shoot for an event, but found myself drawn to a traditional east coast kitchen party. Food, drink and amazing music filled this old victorian home until the wee hours of the morning. Sounds of the city gave way to the sounds of fiddles, pianos and guitars. It was a great reminder of why I moved home, and I look forward to working with these artists again. Here are a few of my favourites …

DeAnna Rocks The Dress – Halifax Wedding Photographer

Next weekend I’ll travel from Halifax to North Carolina to photograph DeAnna and Brad’s wedding and I’m really looking forward to sharing some of my favorites … but in the meantime I wanted to post a few shots that I’ve been sitting on for the past couple of months. I met with DeAnna earlier in the year for a “Rock the Dress” bridal session, but for obvious reasons didn’t want to share any of the photos until after their wedding.
These bridal sessions are a lot of fun and a great way to showcase stunning brides rocking their amazing dresses before their wedding day. And there’s a few things that make this bridal portrait session distinctly my own – a stylist for hair and make up, a cool location which in this case happened to be downtown Charlotte, and because they’re influenced by my reading of Vogue and Wedding Bells. A rock the dress bridal session is slightly different than the popular, post-wedding “Trash the Dress” sessions as we definately don’t trash the wedding dress … this is designed to showcase the bride. And I have to say that I absolutely love these bridal sessions and I can’t wait to rock out with more of my brides.

I’m all for practicing so I thought it was awesome when Liam over at Applehead Studios suggested that a few of us Halifax wedding photographers get together and talk about everything and anything related to wedding photography … we even had an assignment – to come up with a few shots of wedding rings to share during our meeting. I always try to get a ring shot at every wedding and thought this was a great way to get a little creative with our own wedding rings – so here’s a few that I came up with …

Brett & Andrew Engaged – Halifax Wedding Photographer

When Brett first contacted me about photographing her wedding, we immediately clicked. I love it when connections come easy and naturally … and there is nothing forced about Brett & Andrew – they’re a wonderful couple who are planning an early summer wedding in Halifax. They wanted the location of their engagement session to fit them perfectly and I think it exceeded our wishes in every way … I can’t wait spend the day with these two again – their wedding will be quite the celebration as Brett will also be graduating from Med School this spring … I’m honoured to be their photographer and looking forward to their wedding day.
