A Sunny Easter

We took advantage of the fantastic sunshine this past Easter weekend, spending time with my sister and parents just outside of Halifax (I hope that this isn’t Nova Scotia “trick” weather). I’ve really enjoyed the down time over the past few months. It’s allowed me to catch up with family and get ourselves settled back in the Maritimes, and I’ve been able to practice a few photography tricks before the wedding season starts. But I can’t wait for what’s next …

And one more of the little miss.

One of my bride’s brothers was in town this past week-end and since it was a rare opportunity to get the whole family together, we decided to brave a frigid morning for a fun family session. This was one of those days that, even after the amazing weather we’ve been having, I was quickly reminded of how vicious and unpredictable the Nova Scotia weather can be in March. It was one of the tougher shoots I’ve had in a while and a few tears were even shed as we stuck it out in the cold (mostly by me!), but everyone was a real trooper and I was able to get a bunch of great shots of this wonderful family. I look forward to seeing everyone again this summer!

And a big thanks to Jenn Nauss who assisted me on the shoot!

A Splash of Color

I was introduced to Sheri and Bill through Sheri’s wonderful classmates at Dalhousie who gifted a family session to this new family of three. When I arrived for our shoot, I noticed a large collection of graphic novels and a green wall painted in the living room and instantly knew that this would be a shoot with a splash of color. Thanks to the Roach family for a fantastic morning … Nate was an adorable (and cuddly) little boy and judging by his sleepy movements, I’m quite sure that he’ll be swinging from their chandelier in no time. Island Love

Being back on the East Coast of Canada has reminded me of the talent that exists here. I recently travelled to Charlottetown, PEI to shoot for an event, but found myself drawn to a traditional east coast kitchen party. Food, drink and amazing music filled this old victorian home until the wee hours of the morning. Sounds of the city gave way to the sounds of fiddles, pianos and guitars. It was a great reminder of why I moved home, and I look forward to working with these artists again. Here are a few of my favourites …

What a way to finish off my 2009 family sessions … I’ve found that normal routines often make great photographs, so I was thrilled when the Aghjayan invited me into their beautiful home for a really fun family session. Their kids were quite excited to have me chase them around the house … in fact they didn’t stop laughing the whole time I was with them. Thanks for the fun afternoon!

Michael and Gwen are a fun & hip couple and they had a blast in front of the camera … this is a family who loves life & living it together.

Meet Fletcher

When a close friend of mine called to let me know that a photographer stood up one of her friends, who had been waiting to have a bunch of photos done of her daughter (who’s turning 1). I told her that I would love to do it for her, and jumped in the car to meet up with Natalie and Mikyla … MJ was a busy little girl. Her non-stop exploration and discovery of everything and anything around her was a treat to capture.

Sometimes everything falls so perfectly into place during a photo session & what happens in front of my camera feels like pure magic. So was the case with this family on a gorgeous autumn afternoon – the rain held off long enough for us to have some fun outside, which resulted in a bunch of wonderful family photos. You can’t pretend or make up love within a family … it’s one of the reasons why my job is so amazing.

The Carlson Family

I photographed the Carlson’s days after Gray was born and was completely thrilled when they called me back for another great family session. Gray is now 4 months old and has been growing into quite the charming little man. He acted like a seasoned pro in front of the camera and was all smiles, ear to ear with an overflow of drool. It was wonderful to re-connect with Mark and Jenny … I have to tell you that I’m in love with these pictures, the fall colors, the time of year & virtually everything about them – it was a really, really fun shoot … the Carlson’s were glowing with happiness – thanks for the fun afternoon!

Introducing Ben

So we haven’t exactly been organized with baby #2, especially since he came a couple of days early … yes Baby Ben (Benjamin Douglas) decided to arrive a few days of days early and was born bright and early on September 29th – which also happens to be my wife’s birthday. “Big Ben” (as the nurses called him) was born 21.5 inches long and weighed in at a whopping 10lbs 2 oz. We’re thrilled that he is happy and healthy and so far he’s been the sweetest, sleepiest and cuddliest little guy with a tremendous appetite … we’re just trying to keep up with Sadie (who absolutely loves him).
